Bethesda, MD, USA | MDOT - 2020-2023 | DBFOM

Project Description

The Op Lanes Program – I-495 & I-270 Phase South was a major transportation initiative aimed at improving mobility and reducing congestion along some of the most heavily traveled corridors in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

The project involved the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of express lanes along more than 37 miles of highway, extending from the American Legion Bridge along I-495 (Capital Beltway) and I-270 to I-70.

The improvements were designed to enhance travel reliability, reduce congestion, and improve regional connectivity along critical commuter and freight corridors serving Montgomery County and the broader Washington metropolitan region.
